5TH GENERATION THERMOSTAT CALIBRATION MACHINE
5th generation thermostat calibration machine commissioned by Western Thomson India. Control is by Omron PLC and SMC Pneumatics.
CALLIBRATOR EVOLUTION
Gradual evolution of the calibrator has led to the use of can technology to control the pneumatics as seen on the refurbishment and conversion to accommodate a smaller domestic radiator thermostat.
THERMOSTAT PROCESSING

HYDRAULIC PUNCH
REFURBISHMENT & UPGRADE
We took an existing flange ring punch machine and used the basic frame, hydraulics power pack and cooler, and the jaw and carriage assembly and created a new operation which could accommodate a greater range of ring diameters.
UPGRADE OPERATING SYSTEM
The brief was to upgrade the operating system to use modern technology and PLC accuracy to improve the angular accuracy of the punched holes. The Hydraulic linear postioning cylinder was also badly worn and leaking so this was replaced with an electric linear cyclinder and amplifier from Festo.
EASING THE OPERATION
To ease the operation the setter only needs to input the No of holes to be punched, and the PCD of the ring. The PLC calculates the No of pulses to send to the servo which operates the caterpillar drive (another Ritech innovation) to rotate the jaws to the next punch position.
CONFIGURATION
At the same time the linear actuator moves the carriage from the load position to the punch position based on the PCD. In this away the machine can be configured to punch any ring that will fit in the jaws. Extra sets of jaws have been manufactured to allow much larger rings than was possible
