A saving of more than half the cost of a new machine was achieved during the renovation of this flange punching machine. It's worn hydraulics and obsolete control system required replacement, whilst the poorly designed hydraulic actuator resulted in excessive backlash and poor accuracy.

The geared slewing ring was reconditioned and machined to remove the drive teeth, and a toothed belt bonded in place; this meshed with a servo driven crawler drive via a double sided belt to give zero backlash. |
