Door Arrestors

Back to Maintenance

For $29 I bought a Jager Eng door arrestor kit. New door arrestors are actually not that expensive from an OPC, but I wanted to see whether these catches are any good. The kit consists of two 30thou (.085mm) titanium shims shaped to fit , a couple of washers, and a couple of cable ties. High tech, I think not

They fit over the existing arrestor bar on each door, and the arrestor bolt is only nipped down tight. It really is a simple process. See below.

Remove catch bolt (left). It will be locktighted already so be ready for a bit of a fight.

The shims are handed, and marked in felt pen, being American ‘D’ is the passenger side of our RHD cars, P is drivers side!

Getting the shims into the door takes a bit of wiggling and cussing, but they slide over the existing plate ok. Locktight is essential on the thread.    I didn’t feel that the supplied cable tie was necessary, I would have liked the bent titanium to sit right on top of the existing arrestor, but it seems to function ok as it is

Nett result:- Well, it works and certainly keeps the door open! It is a little ‘graunchy’ right now - I am hoping it will wear in slightly. Ultimately I will have to ask my wife how good it is overall - she is the one who has been bitching at me to fix it.

Ultimately I think a new arrestor at approx £20 and a couple of hours removing the panel is probably a better bet - if you are doing the job yourself, but as a quick and easyfix these shims will do the job.
